Smarter Than The Average Bear

So if you are living under a rock you might not heard about the W32/Bugbear@MM virus. It's notable because of the high number of ways it can infect systems and also since it has the ability to go undetected by specifically disabling most consumer anti-virus programs.

If you haven't updated your anti-virus LATE TODAY you're probably NOT safe. There has been several variants of Bugbear found in the wild last night and this morning and new updates have been released by most anti-virus publishers.

Also, if you're not regularly going to windowsupdate.microsoft.com to download all the critical fixes and service packs you're just asking for more trouble. One of the methods Bugbear uses to spread is through a known exploit in Outlook/Outlook Express that has been corrected in a critical fix that has been available for over a year!

I really don't have any sympathy for anyone that has been bitten by this worm through Outlook. There is no excuse for not regularly downloading and installing free patches and updates!
