Today could have been Friday the 13th
My grandmother called me today to let me know shes been in the hospital for almost a week. She had a case of phenomena but is responding to antibiotics and is recovering well. With any luck she should be released from the hospital tomorrow.
I also found out a good friend of mine (and a BowlingFans.com Columnist; I'm not saying who because I don't know if he wants anyone else to know) was in the hospital since Tuesday. He has a serious heart problem; a valve that supplies blood from the atrium to the ventricles is not closing all the way, and is starting to regurgitate blood back up through the chambers.
In the short term he is not allowed to do anything physically stressful. He has taken leave from his job and quit bowling for now, something he is seriously passionate about. The good news is he's out of the hospital now and on medication which might correct the problem. If medication doesn't work, they need to think about surgery. I'll be hoping the best for him.
Just when I thought the day couldn't get any worse Katrina calls me this evening and says she was in a bad car accident. She was taking a taxi home and the driver ran a red light and was sideswiped by a minivan. Despite the taxi being almost completely wrecked she came out of it with only a few scratches and a small backache. She went to the emergency room to have it looked at and was x-rayed. Luckily it was nothing more than a couple bruises.
It turns out this taxi driver has no hack license and isn't insured. He was arrested at the scene and supposedly will have to do some jail time but that isn't good news -- since hes uninsured and has no money Katrina will be stuck with all the ER bills.
I really can't deal with any more bad news today so I'm heading to bed early before the telephone rings again.

Damn Steve, your cup runneth over. I had a day like this very recently and you start to seriously wonder if someone hasn't put a curse on you.
I hope everything turns out okay, my best wishes are with you.
ACK! You made it sound worse than it is. I'm fine now and I don't think the emergency bill will be too bad. I think my company's health plan might even cover it.
p.s. I'm not sure when you're getting up so give me a call in the morning before you go out. I'll be awake around 7 as usual.
