Are you having FON?

I'm always in need of an open WiFi access point while away from home and came across one that was part of the FON network today. FON claims to be the world's largest WiFi community. Its members share their Internet access at home and, in return, can enjoy free WiFi wherever they find another FON Access Point. To make that easier they have a FON Google map mashup so you can plan ahead and find access points before you hit the road. Brilliant idea!

To join the FON network you can buy one of their La Fonera routers or download FON firmwares which are based on OpenWRT and available for many popular routers. I'm planning on trying to install this on an old Linksys tonight.
