Fon delievers; I'm giving away an invite for a Free Fon Router

As previously reported, Fon is giving away 100,000 Routers! and as predicted the promotion ended quick. I've received my free Fon router today and several of my friends, who I also shared the free link with, have received theirs too.

Setup of the Fon Router was easy. Just plug it into the network, connect to the router over wifi, visit wifi.fon.com, and login in. All the router's settings are made through the Fon web site. While you don't have as many options that are available with some other routers, it does allow you to set your own custom SSIDs (there are two; one for the public and one for a private secured network,) change the passwords, and decide if you're going to be paid for public usage or allow it to be used free (and you'll get free access to other Fon access points.)

I placed the router on the street side wall of a room closest to the street. Its on one end of the house. I tested the reception inside other parts of my house and the signal is "Excellent" (5 out of 5 bars) in every room, even the furthest from the router. Its too cold to venture outside right now to do any reception testing outdoors but I'm confident the signal would be reached from the street.

Fon is currently running a promotion, "Fonero Gets Fonero," for new Fon users to give an invite for a FREE Fon router (including shipping and handling) to three friends. I'm going to give one invite to a commenter to this post. To enter you must post an interesting or funny comment by Midnight, February 22, 2007.

Sounds cool!

I got mine last week.

Now I'm just trying to decide if I want to put it in my house (we're already good here) or if it will be better served at the USBC office since the bowling center isn't allowed to have Internet access and it would help me immensely doing my job with tournaments and stuff like that.
