Cherry Barbs - Barbus titteya
Cherry Barbs are less carp like than most barbs. They are extremely peaceful community fish that are interesting to watch. Males are bright cherry colored while females are more subdued. So far I have been unable to breed any of my cherry barbs but they still remain one of my favorite fish.

Neon Tetra - Paracheirodon innesi
Neon Tetras are often confused with Cardinal Tetras. (So much I've had mine misidentified for years!) A somewhat hardy fish provide it was commercially bred and not caught in the wild in Asia and the Czech Republic. They can be extremely difficult to breed. Water must be soft and acidic.

White Clouds - Tanichthys albonubes
I have learned that White Cloud Mountain Minnows breed quite easily. It seems I always have some fry in the tank. They are found in mountain streams in China. White Clouds can be kept in unheated tanks (down to 55F). Many advise against putting them in tropical tanks but I have found that they do fine in heated aquariums as well. Just don't let the temperature go above the mid 70s.

Female Krib
Kribs like all cichlids are very territorial. This Krib spends most of her day circling her cave and chasing away any other fish that enter the area.

Female Krib and fry
Once Kribs have breed they care for and vigilantly protect the fry. Here the female Krib guides her fry out of their cave to find food. Female Kribs usually have a rounded dorsal fin and dark spots in the upper lobe of the caudal fin.

Babies!
This was a very tricky picture to get. If you look very closely you will notice about 8 Krib fry swimming along the gravel in the tank.

Kribensis - Pelviachromis pulcher
On the left is a female Krib and on the right is her mate. Kribs form a strict relationship and both care for their young. Kribs are very "pet like" as they are very responsive to humans. If any fish can be said to be intelligent, Kribs can. They display this in their everyday activities as well as in their specialized mating, breeding, and fry-raising activities.

Oto Cats - Otocinclus affinis
Oto Cats or Dwarft Sucker Catfish are small algae eating cat fish. They do a great job of eating most the algae in the tanks I keep them in. However, you still must scrape the glass from time to time. Otos do not get larger than 2" and don't seem to turn into fish killers like larger plecos can. Otos are great hiders, you may think there are none in your tank until you suddenly see one sucking the front glass of the aquarium.
