Help me find a New Domain/Business Name, Win $100!

Completely inspired by a similar competition on, I've decided I'd start one of my own.

I used to be in the "photography business" and after taking a twelve year break from it, I'm really looking forward to getting back into it. I'll no longer be forced to breathe the fumes from the darkroom chemicals or spending most of my time cleaning trays and doing other mundane and repetitive tasks in a darkroom instead of using my artistic talents.

During the past few months, I've been giving myself migraines almost everyday trying to come up with a domain name (which will also serve as the company name) for my new photography company. I'm really starting to drive myself nuts as everything I can think of is either already registered and/or trademarked!

When I was doing photography professionally in the early/mid 1990s, my company name was "SM Commercial Photography." I used SM as it's impossible for most people to spell my last name correctly. This time around, I'd like to have a company name that doesn't incorporate my own name. I really want to have a name for this company that is easy to spell, sounds much more creative, and is memorable.

Heres where you come in. Be the first to submit a domain name that I choose to use and I'll send you, your choice of, $100 through PayPal or an $100 Gift Certificate!

About the business:

  • As I've alluded to earlier, the domain name will be for my new photography company.
  • I am a professional photographer specializing in commercial/corporate (product, architectural interior/exterior, industrial, location, and editorial), commissioned portrait, landscape, event, photojournalistic wedding, and fine art photography.
  • I will mostly serve real estate agencies and real estate developers, architects, marketing/advertising firms, and law firms. To a lesser extent I'll serve consumers needing engagement, wedding, portraits, and event photography.

Name Guidelines:

  1. I'm always going to print "Commercial, Portrait, and Wedding Photography" below the actual name/logo, I'd prefer the name should stand on its own and not include those terms.
  2. The domain name should be professional sounding to commercial customers but also be appealing to Brides and Grooms.
  3. The domain name must be available for registration (as .com, .org, .net, .us, AND .biz) by me. So please check its availability (you can check here.)
  4. Domain names that are easy to spell (spelled exactly like they sound), and are short are preferred.
  5. I'd like to avoid using usrbingeek (or derivatives) as part of the name.
  6. Domain names with intentional misspellings (like "Flickr"), dashes, or dots (like "") will not be selected.
  7. Domain names that incorporate the state or a city name are discouraged.
  8. Bonus points for using either or both of the following words, "Light," "Star," or other space or nautical terms that might relate to them or other photography terms.
  9. Double bonus points if you don't use the following cliché terms as part of the domain name: "Studio," "Photography," "Photo," "Foto," "Imaging," "Reproductions," "Digital," etc.

Submit as many names as you can come up with using this form. Please do not post your ideas in the comments or elsewhere as someone could potentially register them. Any domain name that is already registered is disqualified!

Entries must be received on or before midnight Eastern Standard Time on March 15, 2006. A winner will be chosen approximately within one week thereafter, unless no domain name submitted is appealing to me.
Update: I appreciate all the entries but in the end none appealed to me so I've closed the contest and went in a different direction. Again, thank you for taking the time to enter.

Rules and other stuff my attorney said I must say after the jump:

  9. The Winner will be determined by judging of names conducted by Steve Mermelstein, from all eligible entries. All decisions by Steve Mermelstein are final. The Winner will be notified by phone or e-mail. The Winner acknowledges that the aforementioned individual has neither made nor is in any manner responsible or liable for any warranty, representation or guarantee, expressed or implied, in fact or in law, related to said prize. In the event that any dispute arises regarding the meaning or interpretation of these rules, participants agree that the dispute shall be resolved by applying the laws of the State of Vermont with venue in Chittenden County.
  10. In the event that no domain name submitted is chosen as the Winner by Steve Mermelstein, no Winner will be selected and the Prize will not be awarded. The contest may be offered ag

  12. The Winner may be required to sign a document releasing and indemnifying Steve Mermelstein from any liability in connection with the contest or its Prize within 7 (seven) days of notification. Noncompliance may result in forfeiture of the Prize.
  13. Anything you transmit to using the provided form will be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary and you waive any claims with respect to your submission.
  14. The Winner will be announced and published on-line at the web site.
